Invited session proposals are solicited for the 2017 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS 2017), to be held on the July 23–28, 2017, in Fort Worth, Texas, USA.

Proposals for invited sessions must reach the Co-Chairs of the Technical Program Committee by October 7, 2016. This deadline will be strictly observed, and no deadline extension will be given.

Each proposal should include

• Chair and Co-Chair names, institutional affiliations and contact information
• Session title
• Brief description of session with keywords
• A short abstract (with at least 500 words)
• List of potential invitees
• the associated IGARSS 2017 theme (see list of topics at http://www.igarss2017.org/Papers/PaperTopics.asp)
• Only 9 or 10 paper full sessions will be considered, with the first paper being a 40-minute overview 'tutorial' if nine papers are included.

As with previous years the chair and co-chair should confirm that their potential invitees are willing to make a commitment to attend and deliver a presentation at the Symposium in Texas in July 2017, should the proposed invited session be accepted into the technical program.

When seeking such commitment, we suggest that the chair and co-chair of the invited session advise the invited presenters that a place for the session in the final technical programme cannot be guaranteed, and that competition for invited session places is strong, and the number of such places limited.

The following topics have been designated of special interest for IGARSS 2017. Special session proposals for these topics are specifically encouraged.

• Missions or activities involving international cooperation
• Emerging industry remote sensing activities
• Remote sensing for energy applications (solar, wind, subsurface)
• Remote sensing and the internet of things
• Remote sensing and our living environment
• Water resource management
